KAIROS Ministry

"I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me."
Matthew 25:36

“Kairos” means “A Special Time” in the manner of a life-changing moment! These moments happen frequently in the lives of the prisoners who participate in the Kairos weekend.

Here at Calvary Episcopal Church we engage with prisoners at the Carol Vance Correctional Facility each quarter by participating in a KAIROS WEEKEND ministry project. We volunteer with members of a number of Houston churches to sponsor and host Carol Vance prisoners during this weekend. During the weekend we together experience the true Love of God and one another as we engage with each other and witness to the Gospel, sharing our own experiences in this truly life-changing event. We seek men and women who will help us in the following actions:

1. Weekend Volunteers: you will attend four training sessions, which precede the next KAIROS WEEKEND (Probably in late January or early February). Volunteers (men & women) help prepare meals and supply materials prior to the KAIROS WEEKEND. Men are needed to train together on the four alternate weekends prior to the KAIROS WEEKEND and then participate in the prison ministry during the KAIROS WEEKEND.

2. Men and Women as Prayer Partners who will pray for the Kairos weekend and sign a Prayer Chain Link (available in the Parish Hall).

3. Children will draw and color placemats for the KAIROS WEEKEND meals.

4. Sponsors donate to help defray meal expenses(any amount) by signing “Meal Tickets” and placing their donation in the basket on the Kairos Table in the Parish Hall the month prior to the event.

Materials are on the tables in the Parish Hall beginning with Rally Day and then the month preceding the KAIROS WEEKEND.
