Acolyte

"Then will I go to the altar of God, to God, my joy and my delight. I will praise you with the harp, O God, my God." Psalm 43:4

The word Acolyte is Greek for Server and that is what these young people at Calvary do. They serve the church, its people, and through that service, God.

The Acolyte ministry at Calvary is a ministry designed for young adults in grades 5 through 12. Acolytes pursue their servant ministry as ministers of the liturgy in public services of worship. Activities during the liturgy include the following:

* Lighting and extinguishing the candles

* Leading the procession

* Assisting with the gospel reading

* Assisting with the preparation of Holy Communion and various other duties.

Acolytes serve as part of a team. The team works together with the celebrants to help ensure the worship service progresses smoothly. As individual members of a team, acolytes learn about commitment, loyalty, and a sense of responsibility. We believe that these are the cornerstones in building an understanding of a servant ministry,  Acolyte ministry is an opportunity to enable young people to take the first step in a lifetime of active participation and ministry within the church.
