Children's Chapel

A special Chapel for the children occurs during the sermon and Prayers of the People at the 10:00 a.m. worship service.

The children leave the service following the gospel reading and children's sermon and process to the children's chapel. During this time they participate in activities which are similar to the activities that occur in the main service.

Younger children light candles, the colors in the church are explained, and the church year is taught as part of the service. An older child is chosen to be the lay reader for the service and directs the other children in the Prayers of the Children which is modeled after the Prayers of the People in the main service. A member of the parish is the storyteller and tells a Bible story . This story is the same lesson the children will have in Sunday School. During this story time the children often interact with the storyteller to tell the story with puppets or to act out the story. Also, music is an important part of the Children's Chapel service. Music helps tell the story and is often tunes they know from the regular service or Vacation Bible School. After the children have finished the Prayers of the Children, they return to the service to complete the morning service with their family.

Children's Chapel is intended to:

  • answer questions that children often have about worship
  • to emphasize the importance of different church activities
  • allow children to participate and even ask questions during the service
  • offer short fast paced activities that keep children engaged
  • promote an atmosphere of caring for each other
